Position Information
Peterborough School for Specific Purposes (SSP), located in Warilla NSW, supports students with additional learning needs. Peterborough School has a current enrolment of 111 students. The school accommodates students from Kindergarten to Year 12 with physical and intellectual disabilities, Autism, mental health disorders and challenging behaviours. Staff are committed to delivering high quality education for all students. There are 14 IO/IS classes and 2 Multicategorical classes. Of the current student enrolment, 11% of students are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 11% of students are learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D). A large percentage of students require significant communication and/or language support. The school focuses on developing communication, literacy, numeracy, and life skills and has a whole school approach to regulation and behaviour. Peterborough School utilises Zones of Regulation (ZoR) and Four Blocks to support student learning.
Selection Criteria
Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with a variety of disabilities including moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, Autism, communication needs, behavioural difficulties, and complex health conditions.
Demonstrated ability to collaboratively develop, implement and monitor quality personalised learning and support plans and proven capacity to develop, implement and evaluate differentiated learning programs in a range of Key Learning Areas.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a collaborative team and build positive, authentic relationships with all students, staff, parents, external agencies, and members of the wider community.
Knowledge of and commitment to the departments Aboriginal Education policies, and the ability to engage all students to enhance their educational outcomes.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
