Position Information
In 2025 Murwillumbah High School will transition from Murwillumbah Learning Community High School to its original site as a comprehensive coeducational secondary school, with an enrolment of approximately 350 students, including 10% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 10% enrolment of students with English as an additional language or dialect. The school has a strong tradition of achievements in academic, cultural and sporting pursuits. Students have access to a broad curriculum, including Big Picture and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses. The special education classes provide comprehensive programs for students with special needs. Staff are committed and caring with a balance of early career and highly experienced teachers. Strong partnerships have been formed with the school’s educational community. Murwillumbah High School is recognised in the community as a leader in creative and performing arts and works in partnership with local primary schools. Wollumbin and Murwillumbah High Schools merged in 2023. Murwillumbah Learning Community High School will become Murwillumbah High School and Wollumbin High School on their original sites.
Selection Criteria
- Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Highly developed ability to lead continuous improvement in effective classroom practice across a Creative and Performing Arts faculty, with a diverse range of skills and experience
- Demonstrated capacity to lead curriculum implementation, including the development of effective and engaging teaching and learning programs, lessons and assessments that differentiate the curriculum for a diverse range of students needs
- Demonstrated dynamic and supportive leadership skills with a proven ability to cultivate positive relationships and cultures within faculty, the executive team, and wider school and educational community, through exemplary interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to actively participate in collaborative leadership for whole-school improvement aligned with the school's strategic directions
General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
