Primary objective

Provide high quality educational leadership to improve the educational outcomes of students, including developing and implementing strategies regarding school-wide engagement, student wellbeing and inclusive education whilst assisting to achieve the school’s strategic vision and operational objectives.

Context statement

Malak Primary School has a culturally diverse school population of approximately 200 students from Preschool to Year 6. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students comprise 60% of enrolments and 75% of students come from a language background other than English. Malak’s 2024-2027 strategic focus is to build a school-wide culture of data-informed self-evaluation and reflection, develop a coherent, sequenced plan for curriculum delivery that ensures continuity and progression of learning across all years and learning areas, embedding clear expectations for the school-wide use of an effective, evidence informed teaching and wellbeing instructional model and fostering a school-wide understanding and commitment to differentiated teaching and learning. Key programs include the Berry Street Education Model, Read, Write Inc. and the Northern Territory Learning Commission.

Key duties and responsibilities

  1. Work with the principal and leadership team, to implement a consistent, evidence based strategic vision, focussed on providing high expectations for the learning outcomes of students with diverse backgrounds and needs.
  2. Coordinate school operations systems and resources to ensure education services are consistent with best practice and school and departmental policies.
  3. Lead staff in analysis of data and delivery of effective educational programs to meet the needs of all students.
  4. Lead the management of the schools’ strategic partnerships to enhance student learning, engagement, wellbeing and opportunity.
  5. As an active member of the school's leadership team, assist the principal in supervising staff, fostering professional growth, and offering coaching and mentoring to grow an expert teaching team.
  6. Undertake teaching responsibilities and other duties as required.

Selection criteria

Essential

  1. Demonstrated comprehensive and practical knowledge of the Australian Curriculum, Read Write Inc, Berry Street Education Model and the Northern Territory Learning Commission to improve student outcomes.
  2. High level knowledge of contemporary teaching and learning programs relevant to complex and challenging, culturally diverse school environments.
  3. Proven ability to lead in the development and implementation of school policies, procedures and strategic planning for continuous school improvement.
  4. Ability to model best teaching practice and be committed to, and capable of, leading pedagogical change linked to recent research and aligned to the school’s Strategic Plan.
  5. Demonstrated ability to build the capacity of instructional coaches, teachers and tutors, to develop high performing teams that operate with the belief that all students can experience success in their education.
  6. Proven success in implementing change at a whole of school level that positively impacted student engagement and attendance, learning outcomes and/or student wellbeing, including leading others through change and managing the performance of individuals and teams to facilitate improved outcomes.
  7. High level interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive cross-cultural relationships within and beyond a school community.

Desirable

  1. Experience in teaching English to students who are speakers of other languages/English as an additional language.
  2. Experience in building and managing strategic partnerships with a range of stakeholders to address identified student needs.

The selected applicant must be registered with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory and to hold a current Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) from SAFE NT or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
