Our school motto “Success crowns effort” reflects our strong commitment to our students, our staff and our community in encouraging all students to reach their potential.

Freshwater is one of the older suburbs in Cairns and takes its name from the freshwater creek that passes though the suburb. Located in this leafy green suburb just 15 minutes from the Cairns city centre, Freshwater State School has a rich heritage. Built on the site of the area's first provisional school after a post WWI period where no school existed, Freshwater State School was opened in 1923.

What was a solitary building and tiny playground surrounded by scrub, is now a thriving, modern 30 classroom school with around 730 students across Prep to Year Six.

We are seeking an innovative and passionate Primary STEM teacher to join our professional team of teachers on a temporary full-time basis for 2018. As a STEM teacher you will:

  • Have a deep understanding of Primary Mathematics and Science to be able to support our STEM program
  • Be energetic, motivated and enthusiastic about technology and its implementation in the classroom and real world
  • Collaboratively plan and teach with classroom teachers from Prep to Year 6 in delivering STEM activities
  • Support the school's strategic direction in line with Department of Education initiatives and policies including Advancing Education and Coding Counts
