Position Information

Junee High School is a rural comprehensive secondary school located in the NSW Riverina half an hour north of Wagga Wagga. The school draws students from the township and surrounding farms and villages. The current student enrolment is 232 students (19% identify as Aboriginal). The school enjoys high levels of community support from local businesses and farms.

Dedicated staff are committed to student attainment and wellbeing through quality teaching, collaborative planning and the Positive Behaviour for Learning Program. Highly effective evidence-based literacy and numeracy programs are implemented and underpinned by the NSW Quality Teaching Framework.

Junee High School has strong links with its partner primary schools through the successful Ngumba-Dal Learning Community. The schools share professional learning, staff and student visits and combine for a number of community events, in conjunction with offering strong transition program for students into Year 7. Effective transition programs for Year 10, 11 & 12 students also support their movement into further study, work opportunities or a combination of them.

There is an active P & C Association that play an integral role in supporting the school.

Selection Criteria

Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and lead school excellence through evidence based and data informed practice, for the enhanced learning and wellbeing outcomes of all students.
  • Demonstrated strength in instructional leadership with the capacity to collaboratively lead and implement the Strategic Improvement Plan through evaluation, innovation and the facilitation of high impact professional learning.
  • Proven ability to influence and inspire a diverse range of students to become proactive participants in their educational journey as well as contribute positively towards the school and the wider community.

General Selection Criteria

  1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people


If you have not held a substantive principal position in a NSW Public School at any time in the past five (5) years, you need to have completed the NSW Public School Leadership and Management Credential to be eligible to apply, and you will need to attach a copy of your provisional credential certificate or final credential certificate as part of your application.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P3 for 2021 and also for 2022.
