Stretching more than 105,000km2, the Tablelands area broadly describes the inland areas to the south and west of Cairns encompassing the Atherton Tablelands (part of the Great Dividing Range), and the Gulf Savannah Lands in the Etheridge Shire.

Crystal clear crater lakes and waterfalls are the legacy of a volcanic past in this region renowned for its geological and ecological diversity. With its refreshing tropical climate, the region is almost always a few degrees cooler than nearby Cairns.

Housing is very affordable with the median house price across the Tablelands sitting at around $350,000, and the average weekly rent for a house is around $330p/wk.

All Queensland State Schools are allocated a transfer rating which is determined by the remoteness or distance of the location from a major city and services. While the base salary range for teachers is the same across the state; rural, remote and even regional locations provide additional financial benefits and incentives that are above and beyond the base salary.

Schools in the Tablelands area range from transfer rating 3 locations to transfer rating 7B locations and attract locality allowance on top of your base salary. CLICK HERE for a summary of the incentives and benefits available to teachers in this location.

If you are an experienced teacher, you can apply to have prior teaching service recognised for salary classification and if applicable your service and leave records recognised in line with the Public Service Directive.
