We are seeking a highly qualified and passionate individual with professional expertise in psychology, counselling, and adolescent mental health to lead and support our staff and students in ensuring all students achieve positive educational and lifelong learning outcomes. About Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology
QASMT is an International Baccalaureate World School and is proud to uphold the values of an IB education. Alongside our IB programs we have a strong focus on Positive Education at QASMT.

We offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in the senior years and the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) to our students in Years 7-9. The IBDP is a demanding pre-university course of study that leads to international external examinations.

Your Opportunity
QASMT currently has a Guidance Officer with a focus on career planning and the focus of this second role is to be a driving force in the development of programs for the provision of a comprehensive student support program that is responsive to the identified and changing needs of students, as a member of the Student Services Team.

The portfolio includes a focus on working with our whole school community in ensuring we nurture the social and emotional wellbeing of highly capable and gifted learners.

About You
Ideally, the suitable applicant will possess the following skills and capabilities:

  • A high calibre, an outstanding leader with expertise in psychological services in an educational context.
  • High-level skills in providing counselling and referral services to assist students in decision making about critical educational, personal, social, and emotional development, and provide ongoing support during the implementation phase of their decision.
  • Demonstrated capacity to facilitate effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, staff, and external support agencies in order to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service in order to maximise educational outcomes for students.

A mandatory requirement of this role is:

AND one of the following:

  • Completed coursework Masters, majoring in guidance and counselling, or an equivalent completed coursework Masters including study in the areas of psychoeducational assessment, counselling, and mental health. OR
  • General or provisional registration as a psychologist through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Psychology Board. OR
  • an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four or five-year qualification in psychology that will enable general registration as a psychologist following completion of a board-approved internship or accredited sequence of study.
