Are you looking for a rewarding teaching position with opportunity for targeted professional learning and student-focused collaboration? DDSW region seeks an experienced teacher who wants to make a difference to the lives of young people at risk of disengaging from education. We need a highly effective teacher who is able to personalise learning for small groups of students (mostly 10-14 years) at the Toowoomba Alternative Learning Education Site (TALES); and to facilitate their successful transition to full-time attendance at their local state school.

The Toowoomba Alternative Learning Education Site (TALES) is operated by the DDSW region of the Department of Education in close collaboration with the Department of Youth Justice. The aim is to provide educational support to students who are involved with the Youth Justice system and seek to re-engage with learning.

As TALES teacher, you will to provide differentiated teaching and learning of the Australian Curriculum; collaboratively develop all necessary support plans; and facilitate access to additional support as required.

You will be supervised by DDSW region's Behaviour Support Team Leader and Head of the Denise Kable Campus; and you will have the collegial support of the Department of Education's DDSW regional team and liaise closely with Youth Justice Case Workers.

The successful applicant will be student focused, compassionate, flexible and highly motivated.

The Denise Kable Support Unit is unique and multi-faceted, supporting students from across the Toowoomba and the wider geographical area. It is a dynamic alternative learning context incorporating - Positive Learning Centre, Toowoomba Alternative Learning Education Site (TALES) and the Electives. Expectations are based on the values of - Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Safety. These values are fundamental to our daily operations.

The focus of study is on vocational certificates in adult education (GCAE) for those over 15yo, and pre-vocational units of work in Literacy and Numeracy for under 15yo. Both age groups partake in projects including: cultural activities, cooking, manual arts, and wellbeing.

Professional support and supervision is provided by the regional behaviour team leader, and also Youth Justice staff. A teaching assistant supports the teacher and you will work from the regional Youth Justice building located in the Toowoomba CBD.

The successful applicant will need to be student focused, show initiative, resilience and have a strong work ethic.
