Living in the Etheridge Shire

Georgetown is a pleasant 5 hours drive west of Cairns in the Shire of Etheridge; the “Golden Heart of the Gulf”. This region is a popular tourist destination with many visitors driving along Savannah Way; the adventure drive linking Cairns to the historic pearling town of Broome in Western Australia.

There is plenty to get up to here; go fishing for sooty grunter, barramundi and red claw yabbies in the fresh headwaters of the Gilbert River, take in spectacular geological marvels including Cobbold Gorge and the Undara Lava Tubes or go fossicking for gold while exploring the rich mining history of this region. Take the scenic 90 minute drive to Einasleigh and check out the beautiful Copperfield Gorge – well worth the trip!
