Job Description

Woorabinda State School is looking for a passionate and dynamic Head of Special Education Services to join our team in 2022. As Head of Special Education Services you will lead the special education unit in both Woorabinda and Baralaba (1 day/fortnight) to provide opportunities for all of our learners to achieve. You will support teachers with planning and documentation for a diverse range of learners, including I/EALD students. About the School:

Woorabinda State School is the best school in Queensland. Located in the town of Woorabinda in Central Queensland, it is situated 170 km south west of Rockhampton on the traditional lands of the Wadja Wadja / Wadjigal and Ghungalu Aboriginal people and is the only primary school in the community. Woorabinda State School is a Kindergarten (with approximately 25 enrolments) to Year Six school, providing support to beginning teachers and relational leaders working with the Indigenous community. The school's motto is 'Proud and Deadly' and we are deadly by being - kind, strong, respectful.The school has outstanding teachers from diverse backgrounds. The leadership team is made up of the Principal, Head of Special Education Services and a Head of Department - Curriculum. The school employs many local staff as teacher-aides, cleaners, groundsmen, administration staff, tuckshop staff, wellbeing and student attendance officers. These staff play a vital role in supporting teachers in the classroom and are provide the important link to the community ensuring our school runs effectively.

Your Role:

As the Head of Special Education Services you will have responsibility for the following:

  • Lead the school special education unit or special education developmental unit teachers, students and stakeholders to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • e.mbed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Are active participants in life long learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
  • Are futures oriented and strategic.
  • Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students with disability.
  • Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the unit to achieve goals.

A mandatory requirement of this role is:
