Applications are sought from high quality special education educators with an approval to teach, who are committed to ongoing professional growth and collaborative participation in Yagoona Public School’s strategic directions for school improvement for 2022 and beyond.

Yagoona Public School has an enrolment of 570 students, including 96% students from a non-English speaking background. The school places emphasis on student success in all areas of learning.

Current focus areas are literacy, numeracy and future focused learning. There are two community languages taught within the school, Arabic and Vietnamese.

The staff have a diverse range of skills, experiences and backgrounds.

The school has a support unit consisting of 9 classes [multi-categorical and autism].

Selection Criteria

  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with emerging complex needs such as autism (primary), moderate intellectual disability (primary), mental health, physical disability (primary) and sensory impairments and challenging behaviors.
  • Ability to develop and implement quality differentiated teaching and learning practices with a focus on literacy, numeracy and ongoing improvement in student learning outcomes.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal and organizational skills with proven capacity to establish and maintain effective partnerships with students, staff, parents, external agencies and the wider school community.


An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
