Position Information

Cooma Public School has a current enrolment of 234 students with approximately 6% of students identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The school has 13 classes, including 3 support classes and is located on the Southern Tablelands, 114km south of the nation's capital, Canberra and 97kms to the snowfields at Thredbo. The school is situated in the centre of town, where its staff have been providing quality education to students on the Monaro since 1863.

The school has a strong focus on using evidence-informed practices for the teaching of literacy and numeracy, while offering varied whole school activities. The school is recognised in the District as a school of excellence in Information and Communication Technology - a wireless network with access to a range of technology resources and interactive whiteboards in all classrooms. We have a range of future focused innovative classroom spaces that enable student inquiry, staff and student collaboration, and student driven learning.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and Berry Street Education Model are key components of the school's learning and welfare culture. We take a R.E.A.L. approach to wellbeing; Relationships, Engagement, Achievement and Learning. We celebrate strong connections across the community and collaboratively lead a Community of Schools approach to Aboriginal Education with neighbouring public schools. Selection Criteria

  • Approval to teach Infants and Primary (K-6) with a demonstrated ability to deliver high quality, differentiated literacy and numeracy programs, using evidence-based practices, a range of assessment strategies and the use of data to improve student outcomes and growth.
  • Ability to model and implement the innovative use of technology, music and collaborative pedagogies to enhance quality teaching and learning and to increase student capacity as independent self-driven learners.
  • Capacity to promote whole school wellbeing strategies to support an inclusive school culture ensuring all students connect, succeed and thrive.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work collaboratively, share expertise and build strong partnerships with students, parents, staff and community.
