About the Role
School Learning Support Officers provides support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes.
This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. In addition School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for students in the following streams or settings: pre-school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual.
Student Learning Support Officers working in these streams/settings have specific additional duties, in addition to the general duties for School Learning Support Officers that are required to be performed.
From 8 November 2021 all Department of Education employees undertaking relevant work, including any work conducted on a NSW school site, will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The successful candidate for this position will be required to confirm full vaccination status prior to the Department of Education finalising the appointment of the candidate and entry on duty.

Additional School Information (Optional)
Tirriwirri School for Specific Purposes (Years K-12) is a new school that opened in 2021 with an anticipated enrolment of 55 students. The school will operate with seven classes in the first stage of development with additional learning spaces possible to support future growth. The school is located between Karabar High School and Queanbeyan South Public School.
Tirriwirri School is the only SSP located in the Queanbeyan and surrounding areas. It is located on the border of NSW and the ACT, near Canberra. The school is located in a highly desirable location, 10kms from Canberra International Airport and is only a short drive to the Snowy Mountains or to the South Coast. The classroom teacher position will commence from Term 1 2022, week 1.
Tirriwirri will prepare students with special needs (moderate or severe intellectual disability and complex needs) to meet the challenges of the future. A strong focus is on developing attitudes of willing participation and co-operation and providing a comprehensive quality education.
Students will be supported to move forward in their independence and reach their full potential. Positive partnerships between families and the wider community are highly valued and play a vital role in enriching student outcomes.
In collaboration with parents and carers, Tirriwirri School aims to foster close relationships with NDIS service providers to ensure students are well supported in learning and have a seamless transition between home, school and community life.
