Job Description

Lead and manage a small team of the Professional Standards Unit (PSU) team to ensure the certification of highly accomplished and lead teachers and the application of professional standards optimise service and accountability to the profession, the Minister and the public. This role will support the implementation of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and manage the certification of highly accomplished and lead teachers under a national system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the development, implementation and evaluation of policy and process related to the certification of highly accomplished and lead teachers
  • Provide authoritative advice on legislation, policies, programs and emerging issues to the Executive Manager (Professional Standards)
  • Lead and develop a small team to achieve strategic outcomes and continually improve the performance of certification
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders to implement certification and the implementation of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • Manage and participate in multi-disciplinary working groups to progress strategic policy initiatives
  • Manage policy frameworks, data and processes for certification to ensure consistency with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and relevance to the Queensland teaching environment
  • Identify and facilitate avenues for enhancing professional development of teachers to support certification, including the provision of training for certification assessors and the implementation of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • Participate in national forums about teacher quality and certification
  • Operate as part of the Professional Standards management team, contributing to strategic and operational planning and the overall management of the unit
  • Critically analyse and prepare submissions, briefs and recommendations on complex issues relating to professional standards
  • Manage the human, financial and physical resources of the certification functions of the unit
  • Foster a culture and philosophy of service delivery, cooperation, high quality people management, commitment to excellence and a professional ethic which ensures the Professional Standards team continues to meet the QCT's priorities.
