Job Description

There are multiple opportunities available for teachers who are passionate about supporting students with disabilities to join our Advisory Teacher Team. Various positions are available across Vision Impairment (VI), Hearing Impairment (HI), Physical Impairment (PI), Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) teams. These roles will work within a team to build the capability of teachers and school teams throughout the Far North Queensland region. The successful applicant will be based in a local school depending on the needs of the region and the applicant. These are regional positions and will at times require overnight travel, including flying. Travelling to these schools is on a need basis with the schools.

Who should apply:

Teachers who have achieved improved learning outcomes for students with disabilities. This may include teachers working in mainstream or special education settings.

The key work of the role involves:

  • Working with school leaders and teachers to analyse and use student data to differentiate curriculum, pedagogies and the environment to address the needs of students with a low incidence disability (HI, VI, PI and AAC).
  • Working with student support teams to develop and implement disability-specific pedagogical practices.
  • Use collaborative inquiry, modelling, coaching and mentoring to develop the capability of school-based staff.

During the application process, you need to demonstrate current classroom practice and successful outcomes for students. This will be an ongoing requirement of the position. Support and training will be available for successful applicants.

  • Discuss your ability to work with school leaders and teachers to analyse and use student data to differentiate curriculum in order to plan and prepare teaching and learning programs which meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students; and are consistent with relevant curriculum frameworks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to implement effective and inclusive teaching and learning processes, including the use of assistive technology and assessment, to establish a challenging learning environment in which students with a disability are encouraged to work towards attainment of their potential.
  • Discuss a time when you have worked with adults to grow their capability and the steps you took to achieve this.
  • Demonstrate ability to work both collaboratively within a team and independently to achieve outcomes.
