Position Information
In 2022, Guildford Public School will be establishing a new support unit with three Autism classes. This will be staffed by one Assistant Principal, two classroom teachers and three School Learning and Support Officers. The Assistant Principal will work closely with the executive team and Learning Support Team in the establishment and running of the Support Unit. Guildford Public School is an inclusive school with high expectations for all students and the Support Unit will be an integral part of our school community.

Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria;

  • Approval to teach Special Education and/or demonstrated experience teaching students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, Autism, and behavioural and communication difficulties as well as the capacity to effectively manage the dual roles of Assistant Principal and exemplary classroom teacher.
  • Proven ability to build teacher capacity and school learning support officers to facilitate whole school professional practices which improve the learning and well-being outcomes of students with disabilities in the Support Unit and across the school.
  • Outstanding evidence of high impact collaboration with families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, community agencies, teachers and school learning support officers.
  • Proven capacity to implement collective well-being practices and processes that result in enhanced student engagement and an inclusive school environment where every student is known, valued and cared for.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
