Position Information
Inverell High School is a rural, comprehensive, co-educational high school with an enrolment of 495 students. A significant number of our students are from a low SES backgrounds and 24.4% identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. Our school provides learning environments that cater for individual student learning needs, as well as opportunities that allow all students to develop to their full potential. We have a Support Unit including classes for mild, moderate and severe intellectual disabilities, as well as three Multi-Categorical classes. A strong and well-recognised culture of inclusion and achievement is supported by extensive wellbeing initiatives. The school ensures students have a balanced, well-rounded education with access to a diverse range of academic, sporting and cultural opportunities. There is a strong tradition of student and parent participation and the school maintains productive links with local businesses and organisations.

Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Approved to teach Science with the capacity to lead colleagues to plan, implement and review curriculum and evaluate effectiveness of teaching and learning programs resulting in improved learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated capacity for strong faculty leadership with a focus on high impact professional learning to inspire and build the capacity of teachers with a diverse range of skills and experiences.
  • A visible leader with demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively as part of the school executive team to drive quality, evidence based teaching initiatives related to the school’s strategic improvement plan, system targets and the implementation of DoE policies that have a sustained impact on student improvement.
  • Proven capacity to build positive relationships and engagement across the school community which help to create a vibrant and positive school culture of respect and learning.

General Selection Criteria

  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
