Tallygaroopna Primary School, with a 2021 enrolment of 80 students, is situated 17 kms north of Shepparton. Students come from the township of Tallygaroopna and surrounding farms.
The entire school community works in a caring and supportive environment to promote success as the result of partnership. Our classes are based on the Kagan philosophy where teamwork and cooperation is integral to learning. All classes have individual names and in each class group work is paramount and these are named also. Our school is an accredited eSmart School. eSmart aims to make cybersafety a normal part of everybody’s life by equipping them to use technologies in ways that are positive and that protect them from the potential risks. The first major focus of eSmart is to help schools create a cultural norm of smart, safe and responsible use of digital technologies. eSmart is an initiative of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation. Tallygaroopna Primary School is participating in the ResourceSmart Schools Program which is a Victorian Government initiative that aims to provide practical support to schools and their communities to learn to live and work more sustainably. Tallygaroopna Primary School has a big emphasis on Social & Emotional Learning and our Bounce Back School Program complements this. The teaching of Respectful Relationships also supports our school to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence
This year our school was successful in securing Chaplaincy funding to employ a Student Wellbeing worker two days per week. Our school values are used to support our students, teachers and parents in becoming positive citizens within their community. These values are: Inclusion, Respect and Honesty.
The school buildings, grounds and facilities have been improved extensively over the last few years due to grants from State and Federal government. The school received a new BER building in 2011 which has three learning studios and a project space. This facility was fitted out with new furniture and extensive IT equipment and other resources. The school also has a Multipurpose room which boasts a kitchen and servery, and two other classrooms that have been set up as a student library/specialist teacher room and computer lab. Off-road parking provides a safe entry and exit to the school. The grounds consist of a grassed playing field with a cricket pitch, a basketball court, two separate sets of playing equipment, plus well-shaded and passive recreation areas. Our school is registered as a Resource Smart School which is a Victorian Government Initiative that helps schools benefit from embedding sustainability in everything they do. We are working towards a 5 Star Sustainability Certification.
Tallygaroopna Primary School enjoys a family atmosphere and values greatly the strong parental commitment in all aspects of school life. Parents are encouraged to be a vital link in the overall school's curriculum management. Apart from the committee involvement at School Council and Parents' Club many parents assist with reading programs, sport and excursions. The strong relationship parents promote with the school augurs well for the future. There is a high level of communication between home and school - information nights, barbeques, parent / teacher nights, written reports and informal chats are but a few of the many communication features. Our school uses an App called Skool Loop to send instant messages, newsletters and notices to parents.

The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2. The primary focus of the classroom teacher is on the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection and inquiry in order to improve knowledge and skills to effectively engage students and improve their learning.
As the classroom teacher gains experience his or her contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. All classroom teachers may be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.
Classroom teacher Range 2
Range 2 classroom teachers play a significant role in assisting the school to improve student performance and educational outcomes determined by the school strategic plan and state-wide priorities and contributing to the development and implementation of school policies and priorities.
A critical component of this work will focus on increasing the knowledge base of staff within their school about student learning and high quality instruction to assist their school to define quality teacher practice.

Classroom teacher Range 1
The primary focus of the range 1 classroom teacher is on further developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support and guidance from teachers at higher levels and the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. These teachers teach a range of students/classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs. Range 1 classroom teachers are skilled teachers who operate under general direction within clear guidelines following established work practices and documented priorities and may have responsibility for the supervision and training of one or more student teachers.
At range 1, teachers participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in the implementation of school priorities.
The focus of a range 1 classroom teacher is on classroom management, subject content and teaching practice. New entrants to the teaching profession in their initial teaching years receive structured support, mentoring and guidance from teachers at higher levels.
Under guidance, new entrants to the teaching profession will plan and teach student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to participate in induction programs and other professional learning activities that are designed to ensure the integration of curriculum, assessment and pedagogy across the school.
Teachers at range 1 are responsible for teaching their own classes and may also assist and participate in policy development, project teams and the organisation of co-curricular activities.
