Position Information

Ellison Public School, situated in the Blue Mountains, provides a nurturing and supportive learning environment for all students. Our school has a current enrolment of 308 with 4.5% of the student population identifying as Aboriginal. School staff value their strong partnership between staff, parents and the community. Our dynamic staff are highly experienced and committed to supporting all students to learn, succeed and thrive. Our school's extensive grounds consist of a yarning circle and a range of play areas. Ellison Public School is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school and students contribute to developing a respectful and safe learning culture. Ellison students participate enthusiastically in Film By The Eucalypts, a short film festival of the best movies by young school students, held annually. Selection Criteria

  2. Evidence of leadership practice that has contributed to measurable progress in strategic improvement measures and system targets with the capacity to effectively lead the successful implementation of the 2021-2024 Strategic Improvement Plan.
  3. Highly visible and approachable leader demonstrating outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, engage and collaborate with all members of the broader school community including the P & C, to achieve improved student outcomes.
  4. Demonstrated ability to articulate a whole school vision that builds cohesive teams, with the experience to lead, support and empower all members of the teaching staff to achieve school excellence.
  5. Proven ability to actively engage personally with all students in order to enhance student wellbeing and sense of belonging.

General Selection Criteria

  1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

  6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people


If you have not held a substantive principal position in a NSW Public School at any time in the past five (5) years, you need to have completed the NSW Public School Leadership and Management Credential to be eligible to apply, and you will need to attach a copy of your provisional credential certificate or final credential certificate as part of your application.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P1 for 2021 and 2022.
