Position Information

Ellalong Public School is a small school located in the rural township of Ellalong, 13 kilometres south west of Cessnock. The school consists of approximately 120 students across 5 classes, including 15 Aboriginal students. The school serves a community from diverse socio-economic backgrounds (FOEI 122). The school benefits from great community support and a positive culture. Our P&C is committed towards supporting the school improvement journey and raising funds to support our programs. The school is looking to continue strengthening our partnership with the Korreil Wonnai AECG and is a proud member of the Cessnock Community of Great Public Schools (CCGPS). Ellalong Public School’s 2021-2024 School Improvement Plan has established clear professional learning directions, teaching and learning focus areas and impact monitoring strategies. These practices have made positive impacts on school based achievement data as a result of high impact teaching, data informed differentiated teaching and collaborative practices. These directions and practices will continue to be prioritised in our Professional Learning Plan. A copy is available from the panel convenor. The school has worked hard to align individual student learning needs with support and intervention programs in the school and beyond.

The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction position is a leadership role dedicated to ensuring that literacy and numeracy knowledge and skills are embedded in curriculum and assessment; high quality teaching practices are enhanced; and the capabilities of middle leaders are strengthened in literacy and numeracy instruction. It shares the broader educational imperatives of the Assistant Principal position but with an explicit focus on the leadership of effective, evidence-based literacy and numeracy teaching and assessment practices for improved student learning outcomes across the curriculum.

The Assistant Principal, Curriculum and Instruction provides high support and guidance to enhance teacher growth and development in literacy and numeracy and strengthens schoolwide instructional capabilities across the curriculum for middle and senior leaders.
