Teacher – Queensland Virtual Stem Academy (QVSA) Project - (Tropical North Learning Academy – Smithfield SHS) (Temporary 0.5 FTE position – contact days to be negotiated with the successful applicant) A unique opportunity exists for an experienced STEM teacher with advanced STEM learning/experience to join the Tropical North Learning Academy - Smithfield State High School (TNLA – SSHS) as the Queensland Virtual Stem Academy (QVSA) Project - Host Site teacher. You will be employed by and based at the Tropical North Learning Academy – Smithfield SHS.

The QVSA Project is an exciting initiative of Advancing Education: An action plan for Education in Queensland focused on engaging and challenging the best and brightest students from years 5 to 9.

QVSA Project delivers enrichment and enhancement programs focusing on current, real world science, technology, engineering and mathematic challenges and research. It is part of a network of schools across the state. Students have an opportunity to build a portfolio of learning experiences underpinned by 21st century learning skills including inquiry, critical thinking, problem solving, curiosity and collaboration.

As a QVSA Host Site Teacher you will deliver the project using a combination of virtual and face to face delivery modes to teach students at participating schools. You will work as part of a supportive team based at the school and at remote sites around the state.

As a teacher - Queensland Virtual Stem Academy (QVSA) Project, you will be responsible for:

  • Planning, preparation and delivery of highly engaging and challenging QVSA programs which include 10 week Grand Challenge STEM online enrichment programs, five to 10 week STEM Skill Builder programs, and face to face experiences.
  • Relationships and project coordination with partner schools.
  • Site based requirements supporting the delivery platform (iSee)
  • Liaising with a variety of stakeholders to ensure the outcomes of the program are achieved.
  • Providing regular data to the site lead contributing to reports of program activities and outcomes to key stakeholders. 
  • Contributing to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive educational environment.
  • Professional learning appropriate to the role.
  • Work in an environment of change and continuous improvement.

  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland. Pre-service/graduate teachers must have been granted provisional registration prior to commencing employment as a teacher.
