Byford Secondary College (BSC) is seeking an ideally highly skilled and dynamic school leader for the role of Senior School Manager.

The Manager will work closely with the School’s Executive, Senior Leadership and Student Services teams to lead our Pathways team as they support students to achieve their personal best.

Working alongside a dedicated Student Services team, who supports student’s pastoral care and wellbeing, this is multi-faceted role that requires an exceptional candidate ideally with a thorough knowledge of West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and senior school curriculum as well as excellent communication skills.

With an ability to use school data to inform evidence based planning and implementation, they will have a key-role coordinating college-wide processes such as career development, individual pathway planning, educational partnerships, Good Standing and School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements.

The Senior School Manager will monitor students’ performance and enact a range of supports for students to achieve academically both within and beyond the college.

As an instructional leader they will work with learning areas, supporting them to deliver a high-quality differentiated education to senior school students, whilst striving to increase school performance across all senior school courses.

To best support students and their families through senior school studies, the successful applicant will act as liaison, educating students on the range of post-school options available and supporting them to work towards their goals.

You will take a positive approach that is inclusive, explicit and supports all students and staff to achieve success.

This role has a clear focus on career development of students whilst also working with others across the college to build and share contemporary career development practices.

Working within a career practitioner role, additional training will be required upon commencement.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment.

This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
  • Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
