Position Information

Chalmers Road School is a K-12 School for Specific Purposes (SSP) that provides educational programs for students from Kinder to Year 12 with moderate or severe intellectual disabilities. There are 12 classes of 80 students with 86% of the students coming from a non-English speaking background.

An exciting opportunity exists for a person with experience in teaching students with a disability to join a dynamic and innovative teaching team at Chalmers Road School.

Each student has a Personalised Learning and Support Plan catering to their learning needs. Chalmers Road School promots a positive learning environment using Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) across all environments and learning experiences. Our staff are committed to working in collaborative teams to ensure high level student outcomes and professional growth of all staff and school community members.

Selection Criteria

  1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disability, Autism, physical disability, health care and complex learning needs.
  2. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and monitor quality personalised learning and support plans, engaging with families and other stakeholders.
  3. Demonstrated ability to plan for and implement effective teaching and learning, with accommodations and adjustments, to meet the needs of learners with complex disabilities.
  4. Demonstrated and well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a school team and with parents/carers.
  5. Capacity to incorporate modern learning and technology into daily classroom routines and a demonstrated willingness to engage in innovative learning programs.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to quality education for all students with complex needs and an understanding how to manage the competing demands of several complex learners at any one time.


An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
