Position Information

Keira High School is a high performing, comprehensive, coeducational high school in North Wollongong proudly serving the local diverse, multicultural community. The learning community is enriched by a diverse student population of 866, significantly this includes 28 students of Aborigianl heritage, 141 EAL/D students and 4 Support classes with 44 students with special educational needs. The school enjoys strong partnerships with the Keira Community of Schools and promotes itself as the local high schopl of choice for families. Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. Approval to teach English 7-12 and demonstrated capacity to be an exceptional teacher of English including Extension 1 and 2.
  2. Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to be a highly effective and collaborative member of the school’s executive team, leading a cycle of continuous improvement through the delivery of the School Improvement Plan.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to develop strong partnerships across the school community in supporting the highest levels of student engagement in learning.
  4. Demonstrated capacity to use data informed and research-based practice to lead a diverse faculty team in meeting the needs of a diverse range of students, including EAL/D students.

General Selection Criteria

  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
