Summary of Role
Early Childhood Leaders (ECLs) provide early childhood leadership, curriculum and pedagogical expertise to the Department for Education’s early childhood services, preschools and early years of schooling (birth – 5) that contribute to improved learning and development outcomes for children.

Early Childhood Leaders support education directors to strategically monitor implementation of the preschool quality improvement plan and evidence-informed quality improvement across preschools, schools and partnerships to directly influence the quality of education outcomes. They provide expertise to site leaders to respond to the recommendations arising from the assessment and rating process, and support leaders to establish effective self-review and improvement planning processes.

By establishing strong relationships with stakeholders including the local education team and site leaders ECLs identify and strategically address the educational needs of preschools, schools and partnerships at a site, partnership and system level. This includes playing a key role in the achievement of strategic directions, the building of leader and teacher capacity, evidence-based review and intervention processes, policy formation, decision making and management of change.

Providing high-level leadership for the development and implementation of a range of key state and national reform policies and strategies ECLs work in partnership with stakeholders to support and influence the development and implementation of high quality, evidence-informed approaches to preschool and school improvement and facilitate the transfer of effective practices across the portfolio.

Essential Qualifications
An appropriate tertiary qualification in early childhood education, education or related field.

Special Conditions
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department of Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. A current DHS child-related employment screening will be recognised as a WWCC until it expires. The incumbent will be required to undertake Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse & Neglect – Education and Care (RRHAN-EC) full day/online training course every three years.
